Lumpinee Boxing Stadium: Ticket Prices, Best Seats, Fight Schedule, And More

If you want to experience the resurgence of Thailand's greatest culture, there's no better place than at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium. Once at the arena, you'll discover why thousands of monthly visitors to Bangkok take time out of their vacations to experience this iconic landmark.

Since Muay Thai became an official sport in the 1940s, it seems every decade or so it goes through another drastic change. The most recent adjustment to Muay Thai has transformed it from a relatively dying pastime to one of the most watched sports on Thai television. If you want to experience the resurgence of Thailand’s greatest culture, there’s no better place than at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium. Once at the arena, you’ll discover why thousands of monthly visitors to Bangkok take time out of their vacations to experience this iconic landmark.

Lumpinee Boxing Stadium: A Brief History

The original Lumpinee Boxing Stadium on Rama IV Road in Bangkok was built in 1956, just over 10 years after the construction of Rajadamnern Muay Thai Stadium. The venue was an epic landmark in Thailand’s Muay Thai history and created some of the sport’s greatest champions. However, in 2014 the land that the stadium sat on was sold to a developer, and the historic venue was torn down and replaced with condos.

Lumpinee Stadium was rebuilt on Rama IX Road and re-branded as New Lumpinee Boxing Stadium. But the character and atmosphere that made the original arena what it was had been lost forever. Lumpinee Stadium continued to hold events in its new location, but it struggled to attract the crowds that once gathered inside its hollows. Then, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the stadium shut down and there were talks of turning it into a museum.

Eventually, promoters returned to Lumpinee Stadium and the crowds followed. Now, ONE Championship, LWC Super Champ, and Fairtex Fight all promote fights at the iconic venue on a weekly basis. The arena isn’t just thriving again — Lumpinee Stadium is now seeing its largest crowds since its new doors opened.

Lumpinee Boxing Stadium Ticket Prices

Tickets to Lumpinee Stadium run between 500 Thai Baht and 10,000 Thai Baht, depending on which event you go to and where you sit. You might expect the higher ticket prices to offer better views of the action, but that’s not necessarily the case. For a complete breakdown of what each seating area offers, check out the best seats section.

Having said that, because each event offers different seating options and prices, let’s look at your choices for the three weekly shows at Lumpinee Stadium individually.

ONE Championship Events

ONE Championship hosts two different events at Lumpinee Stadium — its weekly ONE Lumpinee series and its monthly ONE Fight Night series.

ONE Lumpinee features many of Thailand’s top Thai and Western fighters in addition to the organization’s fighters from its main ONE Fight Night events. ONE Lumpinee focuses more on entertainment Muay Thai, but it does hold some mixed martial arts and kickboxing fights.

ONE Fight Night events, on the other hand, feature more of the organization’s top stars. At these shows, mixed martial arts, kickboxing, submission grappling, and Muay Thai usually share the spotlight. This is also where a majority of ONE Championship’s title fights take place.

No matter which show you pick, you’re going to get to watch the absolute best fighters on Thailand’s circuit. If I had to recommend either event, I’d say go to ONE Lumpinee. The atmosphere is incredible, the production value is top-notch, and the fights always deliver.

LWC Super Champ Events

LWC Super Champ hosts weekly entertainment and traditional Muay Thai events almost every Saturday evening (expect when ONE Championship hosts its ONE Fight Night events). Most of its featured matchups are Thai-versus-non-Thai fighters. However, they do have Thai-against-Thai fights as well. LWC Super Champ also promotes Lumpinee Stadium title fights, so the quality of the show is definitely up there.

Fairtex Fight Events

Fairtex Fight was one of the first promotions to hold weekly entertainment Muay Thai events at Lumpinee Stadium after the COVID-19 pandemic brought the sport to a standstill. On any given Saturday morning (expect for when ONE Championship holds its ONE Fight Night events), Fairtex Fight promotes Muay Thai, kickboxing, and mixed martial arts.

The show has become somewhat of a feeder event and has helped uncover Muay Thai’s next generation of stars while featuring some of the country’s more established fighters. If you only have time to watch Muay Thai in Bangkok on a weekend morning, this is the show for you.

Where To Buy Tickets To Lumpinee Boxing Stadium

Lumpinee Stadium’s website is rarely updated. In fact, it hasn’t been touched since 2020. Despite the outdated info, the venue does host weekly events. That said, you have to visit ThaiTicketMajor.com to buy tickets to watch a ONE Lumpinee or ONE Fight Night event, or get them at the stadium. You can buy tickets to the LWC Super Champ and Fairtex Fight events at the ticket window at the front of the stadium.

Best Seats At Lumpinee Stadium

Even though each Lumpinee event names and prices its seating areas differently, the ONE Championship layout is a good representation of your options. Just keep in mind not all events charge the same prices listed in the graphic below.

Zones A, D, E

The seats in Zones A, D, and E are all tiered seating. From these sections, you get a clear view into the ring unless you’re sitting near the left or right edges of these zones. From the edges, you may not be able to see the fights clearly if the fighters go into one of the corners. This is because the ring posts, the cameramen, and camera crane sometimes obstruct the view.

There are plenty of positives about these sections, though. First, there usually less expensive. Second, you can see clearly the fighters walking out, the fights, and the action in between rounds in the corners. For the best experience, I’d recommend getting seats in lowers rows of Zone E.

Zones A, D, and E are all first come, first serve seating. So, whichever of these zones you pick, be sure to get there when the doors open up to get a good seat.

Zones B And C

Zones B and C are also tiered seats. For some reason, they cost more than Zones A, D, and E. But I’ve found that they offer the same kind of experience as the other tiered seating zones. If you buy tickets for this section, just be sure you don’t sit on either edge of the section, as your view may be obstructed by the ring posts and cameramen.

Ringside Seating

Ringside seating is usually the most expensive option at Lumpinee Stadium, but it does get you closer to the action. From here, you can immerse yourself in the fights while having drinks delivered to you.

However, ringside seats are not everything they’re made out to be. At Lumpinee, the ringside seats are quite far from the ring. You spend more time poking your head around the ring posts and officials than enjoying the fights.

If you’re okay with the cons I’ve listed above, then give ringside a shot.

Lumpinee Boxing Stadium Fights

Lumpinee Stadium hosts both traditional Muay Thai and entertainment Muay Thai fights. It’s good to know that traditional Muay Thai fights consist of five, three-minute rounds and include the wai kru — the pre-fight dance synonymous with Muay Thai — and accompanying music. The fights are slow to get started, ramp up in the third and fourth rounds, then die off in round five.

Entertainment Muay Thai fights run for three, three-minute rounds and sometimes don’t include the wai kru and traditional music. These fights focus more on constant action and knockouts. But make no mistake about it — the art of Muay Thai is still very present in entertainment Muay Thai fights.

Gambling And Gamblers At Lumpinee Boxing Stadium

Unlike other stadiums in Bangkok, Lumpinee Stadium has a strict no-gambling policy. This means gamblers are not welcome at the venue. So, if you’re looking for a more traditional Muay Thai experience complete with cheering gamblers, you might want to watch the fights at another stadium.

However, a lack of gamblers doesn’t equate to a boring atmosphere by any means. ONE Lumpinee events are packed to the rafters with the non-gambling Thai public and they cheer just as loud, if not louder, than the gamblers.

Lumpinee Stadium Dress Code And Bag Policy

There is no dress code to enter Lumpinee Boxing Stadium.

If you’re traveling with bags and show up to the stadium with them, security will check them before letting you into the arena.

Age Restrictions

If you’re traveling to Bangkok with your children and want to experience a Muay Thai event as a family, you’ll be happy to know that Lumpinee Stadium doesn’t have age restrictions. That said, some events do run late, and most shows are noisy (in an exciting way). So if you’re with young children, that could be an issue.

Dos And Dont’s

You should be mindful of a few dos and don’ts at Lumpinee Stadium. In general, you never want to rest your feet on top of anything in Thailand as it’s considered impolite — and the same goes true at the stadium. If you’re in the tiered seating section, don’t put your feet on the backrest of the chair in front of you. Don’t rest your feet on any railings. Don’t yell at the fighters or officials. And never throw anything into the ring. If anyone causes too much of a disturbance, they will be escorted out of the stadium.

That said, remember to enjoy every second of your experience. Cheer your heart out, take pictures and videos, and feel free to say hello to the fighters if you see them outside after the event. They may look intense inside the ring, but when not competing they are very friendly and approachable.

Food And Drinks

Lumpinee Stadium has plenty of outdoor food and drink stands along the right-hand side of the stadium. The kiosks sell everything from soups to rice dishes. On the inside of the stadium, beer is available. However, depending on where you sit, you may have to get the beer yourself. For most shows, though, if you sit ringside, you can have beer delivered to you by stadium staff.

Directions To Lumpinee Boxing Stadium

Lumpinee Stadium is located on Ram Inthra Road in Bangkok’s northern district of Bang Khen. The nearest BTS station — Wat Phra Sri Mahathat — is only 1.6 kilometers away. A taxi ride from this BTS station takes no longer than five to 10 minutes and costs around 60 Thai Baht. You can walk from BTS Wat Phra Sri Mahathat, but it’ll take at least 20 minutes. And, in Thailand’s heat, it may not be worth it.

Keep in mind that the city is building a new railway line directly in front of Lumpinee Stadium on Ram Inthra Road. When night construction begins, the traffic gets heavy in this area, especially on a Friday night. So book a Grab in advance, or leave right after the main event and hail one of the first available taxis. Otherwise, you may have to wait a while.

Where To Buy Souvenirs, Gifts, And Muay Thai gear At Lumpinee Stadium

Along the outside left and front perimeter of Lumpinee Stadium are Muay Thai gear shops. These shops sell everything from Muay Thai equipment to T-shirts to statutes and more. The quality and prices vary with each shop, so it’s best to peruse all of them before you buy something.

Safety

Lumpinee Stadium is owned and operated by the Royal Thai Army, so it’s an extremely safe place to visit. In fact, the entire compound is located on army-owned property. The stadium also employs soldiers for security. Considering all this, it’s safe to say no one gets out of line at Lumpinee Stadium. As for the crowd inside, the general Thai public are fun-loving fans who want to enjoy the fights as much as you do. Conflicts are pretty much non-existent.

Scams

Lumpinee Stadium has done an exceptional job of cleaning up its image over the years, especially since moving to its new location. Most likely, you won’t run into any scammers in or around the stadium. That said, you might come across some taxi or tuk-tuk drivers price gauging at the end of the night.

If a taxi driver refuses to turn on his meter, politely decline and wait for another taxi to arrive. If a tuk-tuk driver quotes you a price that sounds too high, negotiate or approach another driver. When dealing with tuk-tuks, you can almost always negotiate a cheaper price.

Final Thoughts About Lumpinee Stadium

Although Lumpinee Boxing Stadium was once on the verge of closing, the iconic arena is now thriving. Watching Muay Thai fights the stadium should be at the top of your Bangkok to-do list. After all, experiencing it firsthand will give you a much deeper appreciation for Thai culture. And it will be one of those memories that lives with you for years to come.

    • Hi Nina. It’s safe to assume the schedule will be the same for each month. Fridays will always be ONE Lumpinee events. Saturday mornings will be Fairtex Fight. And Saturday evenings will be LWC Super Champ. Same times as listed above.

  1. Thanks for all the great info, John! If you only had time to go to one Muay Thai event would you pick Lumpini or Rajadamnern? We only have a Thursday or Friday night in July to pick from.

It’ll just us two middle aged dudes. Looking for authenticity and excitement. Don’t mind gamblers. We basically just want a good, safe experience but we’re pretty adventurous, don’t need pampering and are not overly nervous.

    Thanks!

    • Hi Mark!

Man that is a tough one, but I’d have to say ONE Lumpinee show on Friday night at Lumpinee Stadium. It will not disappoint.

Thursday nights at Rajadamnern Stadium are also good, but you just never know what you’re going to get as far as the quality of fights.

ONE Lumpinee shows on Friday nights always deliver.

  2. Hello! Thanks for your extensive collection of Information. It’s great!
I have one question if you could help…I was thinking to take my boys (10 and 13 yrs) to watch a fight…which type of fight would you recommend ( traditional or entertainment)? And also which arena would be the most fun for them? Thanks a lot again…really appreciated!! Renza

    • Hi Renza,

If you’re traveling with your sons, I’d recommend an entertainment Muay Thai event like ONE Lumpinee at Lumpinee Stadium on Friday nights.

The fights are fast-paced, which will hold their attention a lot longer. And you still get to experience some of the traditional parts of the sport as well, as a few of the fighters will perform the wai kru before one or two fights.

You won’t get the gamblers and the music that accompany traditional Muay Thai fights, but it’s worth the trade-off.
